Biography
Ibn Barrajān lived in Seville for most of his life. He studied Arabic language and literature, Qurʾan exegesis, arithmetic, geometry and other disciplines of the time. He was known as an ascetic (zāhid), and was a famous Sufi, being known as Shaykh al-ṣūfiyya.
Ibn Barrajān is known for five books. Apart from his best-known work, Sharḥ asmāʾ Allāh al-ḥusnā, he also wrote an unfinished Tafsīr, which was famous for its innovative method for explaining verses of the Qur’an.
